In the last few years, ITscope has converted most of its fleet to purely electric cars. In an interview, we present the advantages and disadvantages of e‑mobility.

In addition to the option of coming to the office by job bike or train, it is also possible to drive an electric car as a company car, if the position permits.

The company cars can be conveniently charged in our underground parking garage, which is equipped with two charging stations. Many employees also have a wallbox at home. To get an insight into the pros and cons of electric cars, our Senior Customer Success Manager Jonas Castello, answers some questions about his experience with electric mobility:

How long have you been driving electric and with which model?

I have been driving an electric car since May 2021, i.e. for about one and a half years. First I had the ID.3 from VW, now I drive the successor model, the ID.4.

Where do you charge your car when you're not in the office?

At the gas station in the neighboring town. I always take the dog with me, park the car, walk the dog for an hour in the forest, let the car fully charge and then drive home again. I actually also have a charging station at home, but the electrician who is supposed to connect it is very booked up.

How long does it take to fully charge an electric car?

That varies depending on the charging station: there are fast charging stations, normal charging stations or the normal socket at home. The home socket has 11 kW, so the car can stand there for five to six hours. At fast charging stations, such as those on the highway, it takes about an hour for the car to be fully charged.

Have you ever been on vacation with an e-car?

Even twice already. The first time I was in the Allgäu with the ID.3, which also had a small battery with a range of about 280 km. That was, shall we say, difficult: My family said afterwards that they would never want to drive electric again. You can just tell that electromobility is still in its infancy and it takes some planning to make everything run smoothly.

Our second vacation was to the North Sea. That was almost 1,000 km, but the outward journey went really super. We arrived without any major interruptions, were able to charge flexibly at every bathroom break, and the trip was very pleasant overall.

The return trip, however, was unfortunately much less relaxed: Many charging stations did not work, indicated charging stations were not yet ready, and the electricity that was indicated did not arrive. Our learning from our experiences is that planning is the be-all and end-all of electromobility.

What advantages do electric cars offer you?

In addition to the important argument of costs and taxation, which are much more attractive with an electric car than with a combustion engine, I have found that an electric car is really great for commuting. I live about 40 km from Karlsruhe and it’s really ideal for my commute. And I’m also someone who likes to be the first to try out new things – including electromobility.

Conclusion by Jonas:

For my commute or a short trip on the weekend, the electric car is really optimal for me and also the driving fun does not come too short! For longer trips it needs a little more planning, but then it runs great – so overall a real recommendation from my side!

You are not only interested in electric cars, but also looking for an exciting job in an innovative company? Then take a look at our careers page and apply now at ITscope.
