Artificial Intelligence, AI for short, has been on ever\u00adyo\u00adne\u2019s lips not just sin\u00adce ChatGPT. Machine lear\u00adning holds huge poten\u00adti\u00adal for the IT indus\u00adtry. ITscope also reli\u00ades on machi\u00adne lear\u00adning methods.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The task: categorise 7 million products<\/h3><\/div>

On avera\u00adge, 100,000 new pro\u00adducts<\/strong> from dis\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtors and manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adr\u00aders across Europe find their way into the ITscope plat\u00adform every month, and the trend is rising. To ensu\u00adre that every cus\u00adto\u00admer finds exact\u00adly what they are loo\u00adking for in the huge sel\u00adec\u00adtion of over 7 mil\u00adli\u00adon pro\u00adducts<\/strong>, all items are uni\u00adform\u00adly cate\u00adgo\u00adri\u00adsed and sor\u00adted. Since November 2022, ITscope\u2019s con\u00adtent mana\u00adgers have been sup\u00adport\u00aded by a machi\u00adne lear\u00adning model.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The algorithm: learning from data sets<\/h3><\/div>

Machine lear\u00adning, abbre\u00advia\u00adted ML, is a sub-discipline of AI and allows com\u00adpu\u00adters to learn from data sets and mimic human decis\u00adi\u00adons. On the ITscope plat\u00adform, an algo\u00adrithm has been in use sin\u00adce November that pro\u00adces\u00adses pro\u00adduct data auto\u00adno\u00admously. <\/strong>Previously, con\u00adtent mana\u00adgers cate\u00adgo\u00adri\u00adsed the pro\u00adducts using stored rules and then che\u00adcked them manu\u00adal\u00adly. The new algo\u00adrithm was trai\u00adned with the exis\u00adting data and lar\u00adge\u00adly auto\u00adno\u00admously assigns the pro\u00adducts or sug\u00adgests sui\u00adta\u00adble categories.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The reality: ML models need people<\/h3><\/div>

So arti\u00adfi\u00adci\u00adal intel\u00adli\u00adgence is now repla\u00adcing employees at ITscope? It\u2019s not quite that simp\u00adle: Although the ML model can cor\u00adrect\u00adly assign a high per\u00adcen\u00adta\u00adge of pro\u00adducts<\/strong>, the\u00adre is still a lot of pro\u00adduct data that can\u00adnot be cle\u00adar\u00adly cate\u00adgo\u00adri\u00adsed. At this point, our con\u00adtent mana\u00adgers inter\u00adve\u00adne again and assess the data with their IT exper\u00adti\u00adse. The ML model lear\u00adns from the\u00adse decis\u00adi\u00adons and thus beco\u00admes more and more accu\u00adra\u00adte. In this way, arti\u00adfi\u00adci\u00adal intel\u00adli\u00adgence ensu\u00adres that the workload in con\u00adtent manage\u00adment remains con\u00adstant despi\u00adte the ever-growing num\u00adber and varie\u00adty of products.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The trust: Creating transparency<\/h3><\/div>

To ensu\u00adre that the algo\u00adrithm real\u00adly makes the con\u00adtent mana\u00adgers\u2019 work easier, ITscope got sup\u00adport from the Hochschule Ruhr-West<\/a>: Jonas Deterding dealt with the explaina\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty of the cate\u00adgo\u00adri\u00adsa\u00adti\u00adon model through Explainable AI tech\u00adni\u00adques for his bache\u00adlor the\u00adsis. \u201cAcceptance and trust form two important aspects<\/strong> that can both sup\u00adport and pre\u00advent the use of an ML model,\u201d explains the Bachelor gra\u00addua\u00adte. \u201cThrough explaina\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty, the user gains an impro\u00adved under\u00adstan\u00adding of the model pre\u00addic\u00adtions, so that he does not have to trust them blindly.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>

The result: Efficient processes<\/h3><\/div>

Product Manager Jan Crommelinck is con\u00advin\u00adced by the inno\u00adva\u00adtions of the ITscope plat\u00adform. \u201cThe algo\u00adrithm takes the easier cate\u00adgo\u00adri\u00adsa\u00adti\u00adon tasks<\/strong> off our col\u00adle\u00adagues, so they can focus on the more com\u00adplex cases. ML is also excel\u00adlent for che\u00adcking exis\u00adting cate\u00adgo\u00adri\u00adsa\u00adti\u00adons and cor\u00adrec\u00adting errors in a tar\u00adge\u00adted man\u00adner, if neces\u00adsa\u00adry,\u201d he says and is also plea\u00adsed about the coope\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon with the uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty: \u201cJonas ensu\u00adred that AI decis\u00adi\u00adons beco\u00adme trans\u00adpa\u00adrent with his bache\u00adlor the\u00adsis, which has acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adted our work\u00adflows.\u201d This is also reflec\u00adted in figu\u00adres: with ML sup\u00adport, each con\u00adtent mana\u00adger is almost twice as fast<\/strong> com\u00adpared to the same peri\u00adod last year wit\u00adhout ML support.<\/p>\n
